Ro Khanna will bring fresh ideas and new energy to Congress. Learn about Ro’s positions below, and check back throughout our campaign as Ro lays out a concrete plan to stand up for the 17th District in Congress.

Ro knows we need to build a strong 21st century economy from the bottom up. As a member of Congress, he will fight to:

  • Make our district a hub for advanced manufacturing to create good paying jobs.
  • Increase wages and benefits to address the high cost of living in the Bay Area starting by increasing the minimum wage.
  • Support entrepreneurs and small business by providing access to capital and by making regulatory compliance simpler through the use of smart technology.
  • Create an economy in which everybody can succeed, and nobody is left behind.
  • Create opportunities for skilled, older workers to leverage their experience and get jobs in the Silicon Valley economy.

Ro knows we need to educate the next generation to compete in a global economy.  As a member of Congress, he will fight to:

  • Make college affordable and debt free by providing federal grants and putting textbooks and introductory courses online.
  • Prioritize local, California students for admission at the UCs over out of state students.
  • Upgrade the technology in our schools, and make sure students graduate high school with competency in math, science and the use of computers and mobile applications.
  • Move away from high-stakes standardized testing and support a curriculum that fosters critical thinking, collaborative learning, and creativity through art and music.

Ro knows we need equality for women. As a member of Congress, he will fight to:

  • Support equal pay for equal work – in practice, not just in principle. It’s a travesty that it’s 2015 and women still make less than men, and Ro will work to rectify that.
  • Provide tax credits for companies that offer child care to support working parents. Working parents have a difficult enough time balancing everything as it is, without adding in financial difficulties.
  • Support a women's right to choose. Ro has a 100% pro choice record and served as Board Member of Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, because he believes that the government should not get between a woman and her doctor.

Ro knows we need to safeguard our environment for the new century. As a member of Congress, he will:

  • Encourage energy efficiency and water conservation. Water and energy are two of the biggest issues of our time, and Ro will bring together stakeholders and experts to find a solution that works for everybody.
  • Promote open space and sustainable communities. We need to strike a balance of growing our economy while at the same time preserving the open space and park land that makes the South Bay beautiful.
  • Support the EPA in holding local polluters accountable.
  • Develop alternative energy to reduce our carbon footprint and tackle climate change.

Ro knows we need to strengthen and defend Social Security and Medicare. As a member of Congress, he will fight to:

  • Protect the retirement age.
  • Support increasing benefits for seniors to keep up with the high cost of living.
  • Hold healthcare providers and insurers accountable for cutting costs.
  • Make sure that seniors get every penny of the benefits that they worked for, and oppose efforts to slash Medicare and Social Security.
